Hello!
I’m Chantal Blackman
I’m a neurodivergent human, Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) & Credentialed Eating
Disorder Clinician (CEDC).
I specialise in providing trauma-informed care for eating disorder recovery and neurodivergent eating experiences.
My Approach
Let’s be honest, if eating was as simple as just putting food in your mouth, we wouldn’t be here. Food is rarely just about food. It’s tied to emotions, experiences, and the ways we’ve learned to survive in the world. I know that navigating your relationship with food and your body can feel overwhelming, especially for neurodivergent individuals and those who have experienced trauma. If traditional nutrition advice has felt rigid, disconnected, or just not built for you, you’re not alone.
I believe that building a relationship with food should make sense for you, not follow rigid expectations and treatment models. Instead of expecting body awareness or intuitive eating to magically appear, I take a collaborative, curiosity-driven approach. Whether it’s exploring sensory-friendly foods, navigating executive function challenges or identifying different body cues, we tailor strategies to support your unique needs and experiences.
I also incorporate Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work to help externalise and make sense of food-related thoughts and behaviours. Many of these patterns, even the difficult ones, have developed for a reason. By approaching them with curiosity and self-compassion, we can create space for meaningful change that aligns more closely with your values and core self.
And if all of this sounds complex, don’t worry, I have a habit of explaining things through mixed metaphors (some more successful than others). Whether it’s likening executive function to “a browser with 87 open tabs'“ or comparing the eating disorder to that overbearing, paternalistic relative at an extended family dinner —insisting they know best while completely ignoring your actual needs — these analogies can help break down tough concepts and make the scary work feel a little more approachable (and occasionally entertaining).
